Public Transportation

The Benefits Of Public Transport

Public transport, also known as public transportation, is an easy way for individuals to obtain a ride to his or her destination. Routes, destinations, and pricing may vary. Those who do not own a vehicle or simply want to save money because of rising gas prices can find a reliable form of transportation within the public system.

Public transportation comes in many forms. A few are mass transit busing systems, door to door buses, and taxi cabs.

Mass transit busing systems run on normalized schedules where people are picked up at preordained stops. This type of system runs on a loop; buses will return to each stop on the route at normally twenty minute intervals. An advantage to this type of system is that one always knows when and where a bus will be. A disadvantage of this type of system, aside from having to wait for the next bus if one misses the first, is the fact that there are many passengers.

There are also busing systems that provide door to door service. The advantage to this style of riding is that one does not need to walk to a stop or wait at the stop; the bus comes to the individual's home and drops them at their scheduled destination. Disadvantages include higher fares for the convenience and other riders on the bus may be the next in line for a destination stop and their stop may be farther away than the individual's making for a longer ride.

Taxi cabs are yet another form of transportation. They run much the same as a door to door bus system, but the price is higher due to the increased convenience of being the only passenger.

Public transport has many advantages for customers who do not own their own vehicle or who simply want to save on gasoline.
